TIPS AND TRICKS
Public Speaking Strategies and Tips
" It is the vice of our public speaking that it has not abandonment.
Somewhere, not only every orator but every man should let out all
the length of all the reins; should find or make a frank and hearty
expression of what force and meaning is in him." - Ralph Waldo
Emerson

Microsoft PowerPoint: 2003 and 2007 Presenter View
Would you like to have access to your slide notes during a
presentation—without printing? Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003
features a multiple-monitor view that can display your presentation
on one monitor and your notes on another monitor. But your computer
must have two video cards, a requirement that only professional
presentation computers are likely to possess.
With Presenter view in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, you can use
your notebook computer's dual monitor capability to display the
presentation on an external monitor (like a projector) and display
your notes, thumbnails of the upcoming slides, and a presentation
timer on your local monitor.
To enable Presenter view:
1. On the Slide Show tab, in the Monitors section, click the Use
Presenter View check box.
2. Select which monitor will display the external slide show.

Bully: Scholarship Edition
A coalition of groups representing four million teachers in several
countries is urging retailers to refuse to sell a controversial
video game about school bullying, reports Jill Mahoney for the Globe
and Mail (Canada). The game, "Bully: Scholarship Edition," features
a shaven-head teenager who adjusts to life at a new boarding school
by harassing others, which the organization says glorifies bullying.
The group spearheading the call to ban sales says there is a link
between violent video games and aggressive behavior in children,
with some studies support this conclusion while others do not.
However, calling for a ban is like "flailing at windmills" when it
comes to actually confronting bullying, said Michael Hoechsmann, an
assistant professor at McGill University and an expert on the role
of violence in video games. "As tempting as it may seem, I'm not so
certain that banning this will somehow result in a more peaceful and
more loving school population," he thinks. In addition, Hoechsmann
noted that he hasn't found any evidence suggesting that playing a
violent video game results in violent actions.

Digital Inspiration
Telephone company AT&T has launched a nice blog aggregator (called
Buzz) that collects the most popular stories from blogs across
different categories such as Technology, Sports, Gossip, etc. While
you are reading a story on Buzz, you also get to see reactions from
other blogs on the same story which I think is really useful. And if
you are doing something else like checking e-mail or reading another
site, Buzz has a 3D avatar that can read the current story for you
in the background. Not bad either.
